Overview
An exciting opportunity for a Bank SLT to join the Specialist Children and Young People's Services (SCYPS) in Newham to undertake ASD diagnostic assessments. This post sits within the Child Development Service, working in the CHAND (Children with Autism in Newham Diagnosis) team.
Role & Responsibilities
- Undertake ASD assessment working in partnership with the wider multi‑disciplinary team.
- Contribute to or lead multi‑professional assessments of neurodevelopmental conditions in children and young people.
- Provide specialist advice across professional boundaries and develop streamlined patient care pathways between nursing, GP's and paediatricians, setting up shared care arrangements when appropriate.
- Discuss and agree assessment outcomes with patients, carers and other health professionals, promoting health education and self‑management while keeping the child, young person and family at the centre of care.
- Work within the Children's Speech and Language Therapy Team to provide a highly specialist assessment and diagnostic service in the CHAND team.
- Deliver highly specialist clinical services to children across the age range as part of a multidisciplinary team for the assessment and diagnosis of Autism and related disorders.
- Work independently and as part of a team across disciplines, in partnership with parents, education, social care, voluntary and other health professionals to provide ASD diagnostics for clients, families, carers and educators.
- Provide advice to parents and professionals on creating supportive communication environments to enable young people to access information and understand interventions offered.
- Work with MDT members to assess children referred for autism diagnostic assessments; undertake ADOS assessments (training will be provided), contribute to diagnostic discussion and develop skills around autism history taking.
- Deliver parent workshops pre‑ and post‑diagnosis.
- Provide highly specialist, autonomous clinical case management including ASD assessments, adapting practice to meet individual client circumstances and overcoming barriers to understanding.
- Write comprehensive reports to be shared with families and a range of professionals, reflecting specialist knowledge in line with department guidance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience of neurodevelopmental conditions and an interest in ASD.
- Prior experience in ASD diagnostics required for this bank position.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to undertake ADOS assessment training if needed.

Bank Position Details
This is a BANK opportunity. Shift availability is demand dependent. There is no guarantee of a minimum number of hours. The successful candidate(s) will already be experienced in ASD diagnostics.
