Job description

Urgent and emergency medicine are seeking a dynamic general manager to lead our Emergency Medicine department at Barnet. With a brand new building we are seeking a forward thinking, experienced performance focussed individual to deliver an ambitious UEC portfolio which will include SDEC, UTC, Ambulance handover and Paediatric ED.

Reporting to the DDO, the postholder will provide operational leadership for the directorate's services, ensuring delivery within agreed budgets, activity levels, and standards of clinical quality. This senior role supports the DD and DDO across all sites where divisional services operate, with a primary base at one site but requiring travel for visibility across the division.

The postholder holds delegated responsibility for operational management, implementing national and local strategies, and achieving service objectives within available resources. Working closely with senior clinical and non-clinical leaders, they will drive effective leadership, management, and capacity to support transformation and service delivery. They will ensure decisions made by the DDO are translated into action and key programmes are delivered successfully.

As part of the directorate triumvirate with the Head of Nursing and Clinical Director, the General Manager will foster staff engagement in delivering divisional strategy. The role includes deputising for the DDO and providing cross-cover for other General Managers within the division.
