Moorfields Eye Hospital are recruiting a motivated and passionate Band 8a Lead Pharmacist to join their highly skilled team.

Moorfields is the leading provider of eye health services in the UK and a world-class centre of excellence for ophthalmic research and education. Their clinical staff take great pride in providing high-quality care to their patients across their extensive specialist clinics, including their A&E department; Paediatric clinic; Retinal Therapy Unit; Cataract, Glaucoma, Genetics, Oracular Oncology departments; and many more. It provides state-of-the‑art operating facilities run by some of the UK’s leading ophthalmology surgeons, providing operative services including laser treatment, vision correction, cosmetic treatment, and various other corrective treatment for a range of eye conditions.

JOB SUMMARY
  • To provide leadership, deliver an advanced pharmacy service, and provide expert advice on pharmaceutical issues for high-cost therapies, Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO), Diabetic Macular Oedema (DMO) and ocular oncology services across all Moorfields sites.
  • To be the responsible pharmacist for high-cost therapies.
  • To oversee the management of high-cost drug therapies in dispensaries, wards, and clinics across all Moorfields sites and to ensure that the service delivery at Moorfields network sites is carried out in accordance with trust and department policy and procedure. Corporate Medicines Safety & Governance.
  • To support the Trust’s Medication Safety Officer for NHS England to promote the safe use of high-cost medicines as the main expert in this area.
  • To support the trust corporate medicines governance strategy for high-cost therapies, through the trust’s Clinical Governance Committee and Drugs, Therapeutics and Medicines Management Committee (DTMMC).
  • To monitor safe use of high-cost medicines, improve high-cost medication incident reporting and learning across all Moorfields sites. Clinical Service Level Medicines Optimisation.
  • To support the clinical services in ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-effective use of high-cost medicines.
  • To support the clinical services in the management of high-cost medicine related incidents and interface issues.
  • To act as role model for pharmacy staff delivering the services across all Moorfields sites.
  • To work in conjunction with the other Lead Pharmacists and Associate Chief Pharmacists in taking delegated responsibilities from the Chief Pharmacist. Education and Training
  • To support the education and training agenda as it relates to high-cost and homecare medicines.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Taught Masters Degree in Pharmacy (4 years) or equivalent
  • 1 year pre-registration training
  • Mandatory CPD
  • Member of The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Post Graduate Clinical Diploma/MSc in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
  • Management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Leadership qualification or equivalent experience
  • Significant post registration experience as senior clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting
  • Experience in working with clinical leads in managing drug expenditure and use and influencing clinical practice
  • Providing a specialised clinical pharmacy service with ability to prioritise the delivery of service
  • Experience in mentoring and training
  • Experience in leading in audit as it relates to use of medicines
  • Experience of training both Pharmacy and multidisciplinary staff
  • Cost/expenditure reporting
  • Highly complex drug expenditure database and analysis
  • Demonstrates good general pharmaceutical & clinical knowledge
  • To have an awareness of national and local priorities
  • The ability to identify and manage risks
  • Awareness of current issues affecting medicines supply issues
  • Understanding on the national medicine safety initiatives
  • Understanding of complex medicine use and issues across the interface
  • Knowledge of medicines legislation
  • Experience in delivering presentations at external meetings
