Job description
Key Responsibilities
  • Report plain film x-rays to a high and accurate standard in accordance with trust guidelines.
  • Lead the General Xray service across Plain film, Dental, Accident and Emergency, Theatre, Mobiles and Inpatient x-ray services cross site.
  • Manage staff rotas, personal development, appraisal, discipline and record/monitor sickness levels.
  • Provide professional support for staff and contribute to plans to improve patient care within professional, legal and policy standards.
  • Monitor effectiveness of departmental protocols and procedures, using audit outcomes or research to initiate new protocols.
  • Train and develop student radiographers and radiographers.
  • Provide clinical advice to other clinical staff and less experienced radiographers.
  • Ensure all radiographers produce high quality diagnostic images and reports in accordance with radiation regulations.
  • Serve as RPS Lead for General Xray and undertake all governance processes.
  • Act as an expert practitioner in plain film x-ray examinations, disseminating advanced practice and knowledge.
  • Maintain and develop links with leads and experts to ensure standards and scope of training, and provide staff with appropriate knowledge and skills.
  • Participate in a programme of audit ensuring inclusivity of all aspects of clinical practice within the department.
  • Possess a high level of specialist knowledge in plain film x-ray and reporting.
  • Independently undertake a range of general x-ray examinations, using initiative in adaptive techniques to optimise image quality and diagnostic yield.
  • Utilise in-depth knowledge and experience to advise and problem-solve when confronted by clinical and technical issues.
  • Be accountable for own professional actions and reports that can directly and immediately affect patient care.
