Band 7 Clinical Lead

The Gables Specialist Mental Health Team serves the populations of Braintree and Maldon and surrounding areas, providing care and treatment to patients requiring secondary care mental health services.

It would be expected that the post holder works alongside the other members of the senior team to contribute towards the leadership and functioning of the team, ensuring that performance and activity targets are met.

The post holder will be required to provide advice, guidance and support to other staff within the team and to apply high level problem solving skills.

The post holder would be required to have good knowledge and understanding of the functioning of a secondary care community mental health service, and should also have the ability to screen referrals and consider appropriate allocations.

The post holder would also carry out ongoing supervision and appraisal of lower banded nursing staff within the team.

To develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with staff, patients, carers, clinicians as well as other teams within the trust and key partner organisations.

Main duties of the job

To contribute towards the clinical functioning of the team, ensuring smooth operation.

To be aware of performance targets, identify barriers and solutions to resolve these barriers.

To maintain safety and ensure the highest level of care is offered within the team.

To provide effective support and supervision of staff, supporting their clinical decision making, identifying and supporting with potential barriers affecting performance as well as identifying potential training opportunities for professional development.

To hold a small caseload of complex service users and work in the role of care coordinator.

To carry out duties delegated by the clinical manager, act as a budget signatory where required, chairing meetings.

To support with the management of the team rota's i.e. duty, depot clinic.

To support decision making within the allocation process and to review incoming referrals from other teams.

To develop good working relationships with key partners.

To lead in the continuing development of a high quality service, underpinned by evidence based practice.

To support with recruitment of staff.
