Job Summary

Overview

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is actively recruiting an experienced General Radiographer for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site. The role is fully integrated into the Imaging department and will involve working across all general imaging modalities, including the Emergency Department, CT scan, Fluoroscopy and plain film units.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will rotate through all general imaging areas and be expected to undertake overnight duties, including CT Trauma scans and general cover on a 7‑day working week.

The role offers opportunities to build clinical expertise, deliver training, lead projects and contribute to departmental improvement. Flexibility, innovation and strong communication are essential.

Participation in the departmental 7‑day working week is essential. A tour of the department will be arranged on the interview day.

Job Responsibilities

As the General Radiographer you will:

  • Carry out radiographic imaging to a high professional standard across all areas, including theatres, A&E (adults & paediatrics), wards and critical care.
  • Independently undertake diagnostic radiology procedures, maintaining high technical competence and patient care standards.
  • Assess, adapt techniques and protocols for each procedure.
  • Provide an opinion on images to medical personnel.
  • Supervise and assist assistants and student radiographers.
  • Lead where required and provide clinical support to colleagues.
  • Ensure patient safety and radiation protection, complying with ICR 1999 and IR(ME)R 2000, Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with data protection and freedom of information acts.
  • Participate in out‑of‑hours on‑call rota.
  • Carry out regular QA tests, report equipment faults and ensure safe use of radiology equipment.
  • Engage in induction, training, departmental projects, audits and quality groups.
  • Seek opportunities for further learning and specialist competency.
  • Attend compulsory staff training courses and meetings as required.
  • Undertake any other duties requested by the Head of Imaging or Radiology Services Manager.
Person Specification
Essential
  • DCR, BSc in Radiography or equivalent State Registered qualification.
  • Demonstrated high technical skill standards.
  • Commitment to training students.
  • Responsible teamwork, leadership potential, patient‑care focus.
  • Progressive CPD attitude and out‑of‑hours work experience.
  • IT competency and ability to plan and prioritise workloads.
  • Competency with a range of x‑ray equipment.
  • Minimum 2 years post‑graduation experience.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Confidence to act on own initiative.
  • High attention to detail.
Desirable
  • Post‑graduate training courses.
  • Specialist radiography experience.
  • IV cannulation certificate.
  • Aptitude for training.
