Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team on our renal speciality ward 3. We are an inpatient 28 bedded ward, specialising in renal medicine and have a designated Renal Assessment Unit. You will have the opportunity to gain many skills including Peritoneal Dialysis and management of both chronic and acute renal patients. You will be welcomed into a supportive, collaborative environment where new ideas and personal development are supported and encouraged. The successful candidate will be expected to work in accordance with the NMC Code, the Trust's vision and values and our Behavioural Framework.

Responsibilities
  • Work as a senior member of the nurse team alongside Staff Nurses, Nurse Associates, Healthcare Assistants, Consultants and specialist nursing teams, delivering high level care to patients in all areas of the Unit.
  • Provide leadership support to colleagues.
  • Ensure staffing levels and skill mix to ensure the safe delivery of care, and ensure patient safety at all times.
  • Coordinate clinical activities, allocation of staff and the management of patient flow within the department.
  • Shift management responsibilities – take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of, or as delegated by the Senior Sister.
  • Carry out appraisals and development reviews for team members.
  • Managing sickness absence.
  • Complaint management and incident reporting reviews.
  • Completion of audits.
  • Participate in recruitment, selection and training of new staff.
Role and team

As a Band 6 Sister/Charge nurse on ward 3, you will play a pivotal role in the overall day to day running of the ward. You must be able to communicate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team, work well under pressure and adapt to any situation.

Contract and working pattern

We have a full-time, permanent position and a 6-month secondment. The successful candidate will be required to work flexibly across a 7-day week, with a focus on day shifts (11.5 hours, 7am-7:30pm), but will also cover nights.
