The Audit Supervisor is the Lead Auditor on Internal Audit assignments and is responsible for the effective delivery of high-quality audit assignments to fieldwork complete and draft report stage, within the required timescale. The post holder supervises and directs field auditors during each audit assignment.
Responsibilities
- Lead a broad range of risk‑based audit assignments that are complex, ad‑hoc, and often non‑financial; and deliver routine audit assignments.
- Develop and lead the execution of risk‑based audit programmes.
- Obtain robust information and data from client systems and through interviews with key client staff, and perform detailed analysis to inform judgments on adequacy of internal control systems.
- Build effective relationships with Audit staff assisting on assignments; communicate expectations, direction and guidance.
- Keep the Audit Manager appropriately briefed on significant issues and performance problems.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Respond to a broad range of sensitive and complex queries from clients and staff.
- Deliver audit assignments that comply with Government Internal Audit Standards and documented internal quality standards.
- Ensure each audit assignment is risk‑based, of good quality and delivered within required time and budget.
- Demonstrate knowledge of professional auditing and accounting standards and guidelines.
- Implement and suggest changes to audit policies and procedures.
- Contribute to the development and promotion of the audit service through daily contact with client staff and other parties.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of a customer‑focused service to clients.
Skills and Qualifications
- Certified Internal Auditor with the Institute of Internal Auditors, or part‑qualified with a CCAB accountancy body or the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, and at least two years internal audit/finance experience, or have worked as an internal auditor for at least four years.
- Holder of a current full driving licence valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criterion will be waived for applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to approved transport.
- Good time‑management skills and ability to work to tight deadlines while managing competing priorities.
- Supervisory experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
