Job description

Overview The ward clerk provides front‑line reception service to the ward, delivering a high standard of customer care to multidisciplinary teams, patients, relatives and carers. The post‑holder collects, investigates, verifies and records patient demographic and treatment data, ensuring accurate, timely entry into the computerized patient information system to support NHS targets and clinical safety.

Responsibilities

  • Welcoming patients and relatives, directing visitors and answering telephones.
  • Maintaining bed boards, recording admissions, discharges and attendances in Cerner or relevant electronic system in real time.
  • Coordinating transport bookings, providing weekly and monthly ward activity figures.
  • Managing post sorting and distribution, carrying out effective forward planning and a range of administrative processes to support high quality patient care.

  • Proven experience working in a public/patient facing role.
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Initiative, problem‑solving ability and the capacity to thrive in a busy clinical environment.
