Overview

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications: Experience in working as a health care assistant. Knowledge of managing and caring for patients with Tissue Viability and Bladder & Bowel health issues and the impact these issues can have on people. Preferably, evidence of training around wound management and pressure area care, catheter care and incontinence management.

Experience: Experience in working as a health care assistant and experience in working in the community setting visiting people in their place of residence and clinics with a variety of wound types and continence issues. Also experience in administrative roles including documenting on SystmOne electronic record system, minute taking, stock ordering, checking and answering emails and telephone calls, stock checks and auditing and experience of Microsoft Word, Excel and MS Teams.

Skills: Excellent communication verbal and non-verbal, time management, and IT skills including minute taking, stock ordering and management, working in clinics and visiting patients in their homes, infection prevention, dressing application and aseptic non touch technique, catheter management and management of incontinence, working as part of a team and collaborative working in a busy environment.

Travel: Travelling across Ealing borough and one mile beyond. You will be expected to travel across the borough carrying equipment (often large amounts of boxes etc) so a car driver would be preferable.

Working hours: The service currently works Monday to Friday 08:30 am to 16:30 pm. This is a full time position and applicants must be able to commit to working 5 days per week.

Responsibilities
  • Support the teams in clinics across the borough and support with joint visits across the borough, including visits to patients in their homes, nursing homes, supported living, residential homes, and Clayponds community hospital.
  • Be competent in applying dressings, NWPT and compression therapy (bandaging, wraps and hosiery), catheter management and continence promotion.
  • Carry out ABPI assessments and bladder scans as part of the assessments.
  • Monitor vital signs and NEWS 2 score and escalate concerns.
  • Have knowledge of basic wound care, wound bed preparation, and types of incontinence and their management.
  • Have knowledge of different types of wounds and presentations.
  • Have knowledge of pressure ulceration categorisation and understand pressure area care.
  • Carry out a continence assessment and understand what support can be provided to promote continence.
