Job summary

A large public sector company in Newtownabbey is seeking a Band 3 Day Care Assistant. The role involves aiding senior staff in care programmes, providing personal assistance, and ensuring adherence to care plans. Candidates must have six months' experience in a caring role and be willing to complete RVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care. A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are also necessary. This position is offered on a block booking basis, with 33 hours per week from Monday to Friday.

To assist senior staff in the provision of programmes of care, providing a holistic service to clients and attending to their assessed personal needs. Escorting clients on bus runs as necessary.

What you'll do
  • Participate in formal and informal supervision and attend and contribute to staff meetings.
  • Providing where appropriate, personal assistance to members such as bathing, washing, toileting, feeding etc, ensuring privacy, dignity and rights of the client and maintaining written records of these.
  • Report to the Senior Officer untoward incidents, eg; falls, accidents, complaints etc and maintaining a written record of same.
  • Assisting in the planning and provision of individual and group programmes of care and social rehabilitation to enable them to remain living in their own home.
  • Ensure the detail of care plans are followed, when working with clients with physical, mental or emotional care needs, including those with behavioural issues.
  • In relation to health, safety and welfare of residents adhere to risk assessments and report any new or further risks you discover to the Senior Officer on duty. Likewise, report any faulty equipment and take out of use.
  • Participate in RVQ training as well as in-house/external training as appropriate to your role. To complete all mandatory training and update own knowledge base and take responsibility for personal development as required. (NISCC Codes/Requirement).
  • Prepare for and participate in formal supervision sessions as well as in the knowledge and skills framework (KSF) and annual appraisal, ensuring that personal training and development logs are kept up to date.
  • Assist with the serving of meals and snacks.
  • Assist with and adhere to various audits within the Unit as requested by Management.
  • Courteously answer telephone and record messages in book provided.
  • Assist with the admission/discharge of clients, listing clothing and assisting with the orientation of new clients.
  • Participate in group and leisure activities ensuring active listening and talking with service users.
  • Contribute to client reviews and participate in review meetings/case conferences when required to do so.
  • Responsibility to register and maintain registration with the appropriate governing/registration body and ensure strict adherence to their codes of practice, eg: NISCC.
About you
Essential:
  • Six months experience in a caring role and be willing to undertake and successfully complete RVQ in Health and Social Care Level 2 within a timeframe agreed with management.
  • RVQ Level II in Health and Social Care
OR
  • GNVQ/BTEC National Certificate or higher qualification in Health and Social care
  • Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment.
