A UK police force in Birmingham is seeking a Cloud Technologies specialist to manage Microsoft 365 and Azure services. This role entails providing critical technical skills to enhance and secure cloud technologies, directly impacting the efficiency of policing through advanced user experiences. Applicants should have demonstrable expertise in Azure, Office 365, and related cloud security products. Competitive remuneration and benefits are offered, including enhanced annual leave and a robust pension scheme.
Prospective officers and staff must be held to a higher standard of behaviour and accountability than members of the public, and that therefore their right to privacy can be fettered in certain circumstances. This is to ensure that members of the police are fully aware and accountable for the unique powers entrusted to them and the standards of professional behaviour they swear to uphold.
West Midlands Police have completed a large‑scale digital transformation programme, and therefore technologies such as Cloud, Artificial Intelligence, Automation and Mobility are no longer visionary – they underpin policing today. The next stage in our technology ambition is focused around the concept of Synergy and delivering amazing User Experiences. This role will help focus and shape our path in the Synergy strategy around our Platform for Future – and thus drive real‑world impact on policing technology, allowing us to excel at our vision; to prevent crime, protect the public and help those in need.
The Service Management function within IT & Digital is responsible for the effective operation, support and maintenance of existing, operational technology systems, including but not limited to all Force applications, technology infrastructure (eg servers, databases, networks) and end‑user devices (eg desktop PC's, smartphones, tablets, Airwave terminals). This function manages, and has responsibility for, the security, capability, availability and performance of all operational technology in the 'live' environment whether it is delivered via internal resources or by external suppliers. This function is also responsible for ensuring existing technology remains fit‑for‑purpose and reflects continuously evolving requirements from the force.
The Cloud Services Team is responsible for managing the force's Office 365 and Azure provisions.
The post holder will report directly into the Cloud Services Team Manager but will be expected to work without direct supervision and will be required to make decisions.
Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.
Successful applicants will be subject to a medical assessment which may include a drug or hearing test.

West Midlands Police is a Disability Confident Leader – the highest level an organisation can achieve under the scheme run by the Department of Work and Pensions. As part of our commitment we operate a 'Disability Confident Interview Scheme' – all candidates who declare a disability and meet the essential criteria for the role will be offered an interview.
It is important to note that there may be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview all disabled people who meet the essential criteria for the job. For example: in certain recruitment situations such as high‑volume, seasonal and high‑peak times, the employer may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non‑disabled people. In these circumstances, the employer could select the candidates who best meet the essential criteria for the job, as they would do for non‑disabled applicants.
