Job summary

A prominent engineering and maintenance firm in Chesterfield is seeking an Automation and Controls Apprentice. In this role, you will learn to work on various design documents and contribute to the development of software applications. Responsibilities include supporting Senior/Lead Engineers with project tasks, ensuring quality standards are met, and adhering to Health and Safety policies. Ideal candidates should have GCSEs in English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above. This position offers a chance to grow and develop skills in a supportive environment.

These solutions include Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Batch, Functional Safety, Operational Technology (OT) Cyber Security and Industry 4.0.

As part of our continued growth in Automation, we are looking for an Automation and Controls Apprentice to join our team in Chesterfield.

The Automation and Controls Apprentice will:

  • Be a committed member of the team and enthusiastic about learning new technologies / processes.
  • Work as directed by the Senior/Lead Engineer and Project Manager.
  • Carry out all works in full adherence to our quality system, whilst meeting time‑scale targets. कु li>

As an Automation and Controls Apprentice Bununne activities will include the following:

  • Learn to understand and use various design documents as part of project delivery, including customer requirements, standards, design documents and drawings.
  • Ensure all work meets requirements and is delivered on time.
  • Contribute to the development of documentation (e.g défin Functional Design Specifications (FDS), Detail Design Specifications (DDS), test specifications, Operation & Maintenance manuals, risk assessment, method statement and site test documentation).
  • Contribute to the development of software applications, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition).
  • Carry out testing activities: modular testing, Internal Factory Acceptance Test (IFAT), Customer Factory Acceptance Test (CFAT), System Integration Test (SIT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT).
  • Maintain detailed test records and Observation convaing report records.
  • Support Senior/Lead Engineer with commissioning duties on site.
  • Work proactively as part of a team and show initiative.
  • Work as directed by Senior/Lead Engineer or Project Manager, reporting on progress and issues.
  • Adhere to the business Health and Safety policies.
Qualifications
  • GCSE or equivalent (Grade 4/C or above) in English Language.
  • GCSE or equivalent (Grade 4/C or above) in Mathematics.
