We are establishing an integrated Scottish Audit team comprising over 30 partners, directors and staff. This builds on the growing audit practices in the existing businesses.

As part of the reorganisation of the Audit business we have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Manager to join an existing team. The individual will assume responsibility for an existing portfolio of clients, supporting the directors and partners as they seek to drive the future growth of the Audit department and wider business.

As an Assistant Manager, you will take pride in supporting the client relationship from initial engagement to completion. You will also gain experience in the cross‑selling of Dains services and be involved in winning new clients and work including pricing and proposals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviewing the audit file and ensuring that it is complete in accordance with best auditing practice.
  • Providing supervision and guidance to the audit teams, supporting the onsite work and training to the team as required.
  • Performing such detailed tasks as may be required including work of an advanced technical nature.
  • Developing and maintaining positive commercial relationships with clients working closely with other service lines as required.
  • Managing the relationships with key client contacts.
  • Attending meetings with the Partners and Directors as required.
  • Keeping Partner and Directors adequately informed of progress on engagements and of potential problems requiring resolution.
  • To be aware of the latest technical developments through reading and attendance of courses (internal and external).
  • Maintaining liaison with the Tax Team
  • Undertaking the role of a line manager within the audit team, ensuring that the team receive the support and guidance required whilst working towards agreed competencies in line with the Dains Career Pathway.
  • Ensuring the department works towards set fee targets, including responsibilities for billing and following up with clients over unpaid bills.
  • Assisting the Partner and Directors with Business Development, focusing on risk assessment, potential client scoping meetings and preparation of budgets.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Education: You hold a professional qualification CA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent, which serves as a foundation for the technical expertise required in this role.
  • Leadership and Management Skills: You possess leadership qualities with experience in supporting junior teams during audits.
  • Technical Skills: You have strong knowledge of the technical aspect concerning a set of accounts and you will be conversant with all current appropriate auditing and accounting practice.
  • Communication Skills: You will have exceptional communication skills to enable you to convey complex information clearly to all clients and communicate effectively with others within the organisation.
  • Adaptability and Innovative Thinking: You can adapt to changes of client needs and have a flair for thinking creatively to solve issues that may arise.
  • Industry Knowledge: You have a robust understanding of the accounting industry’s standards and best practices, which is critical for developing relevant and up-to-date training content.
