As an Associate Director in River Engineering you will play a vital role in every aspect of river engineering and flood defence on transformational programmes for critical UK infrastructure, with opportunities to work on iconic engineering projects at home and abroad.

We specialise in all aspects of river engineering across challenging sectors such as Water, Aviation, Defence, Energy and Cities & Development. We provide industry‑leading solutions throughout the project lifecycle, adding value through client‑side support and construction phases. We currently have opportunities in our Epsom, Peterborough, Bristol, Exeter, Swansea, Birmingham and Manchester offices.

Your role
  • Own and direct teams that undertake technical design work following relevant design standards and codes, and deliver high‑quality outcomes.
  • Define briefs, scopes of work, and contribute to bid proposals.
  • Manage time and budgets to meet key project milestones and programmes.
  • Work closely with teams in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Set quality assurance standards in design.
  • Grow, develop and manage engineering capability within the practice.
About you
  • Chartered Civil Engineer or equivalent.
  • Experience owning design delivery, including multidisciplinary design.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of design for flood walls and embankments, weirs, hydraulic structures, culverts, scour protection, access and accessibility, and construction logistics.
  • Familiarity with current UK design standards, guidance and working practices.
  • Proficiency in delivering both traditional engineering and environmentally focused solutions using nature‑based strategies.
