What you'll be doing

We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant in Nursing to join our Rehabilitation Unit and expand their career within a supportive and dedicated team environment.

You will work as part of a unit committed to providing excellent, patient‑centred care, supporting clients from admission through to discharge. The Rehabilitation Ward has a diverse caseload and operates as a stand‑alone 22‑bed unit specialising in:

  • Stroke
  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Neurological Disorders
  • Lower Limb Amputations
  • General Debility
  • Geriatric Assessment
  • Spinal and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation

The unit provides care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to patients aged 16 years and over. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of experienced Rehabilitation and Geriatric specialists, where staff are valued and supported to enhance their skills and knowledge through ongoing education.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Delivering individualised patient care in line with care plans
  • Undertaking hourly rounding using HAIDET, ISBAR and patient care boards
  • Maintaining timely, accurate documentation that aligns with policy and legal requirements
  • Supporting patients with daily activities and rehabilitation goals

You will be supported in your role by the Nurse Unit Manager, Clinical Leaders and the Education Team, and will receive a comprehensive orientation to both the unit and the facility.

Tamworth is the heart of the New England North West of NSW, with a vibrant population of over 55,000 people. Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital is a major referral hospital within the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD). The hospital has approximately 270 inpatient beds and includes 8 Operating Theatres, a 12-bed Intensive Care Unit, an 8-bed Coronary Care Unit, Medical, Surgical and Orthopaedic Units, a Palliative Care Unit, and a Specialised Rehabilitation Unit.

Outside of work, Tamworth offers a welcoming lifestyle with a wide range of sport and recreation, arts and culture, music and entertainment, cafés and restaurants, and plenty of weekend adventure opportunities. Requirements
  • Certificate III Assistant in Nursing or currently enrolled in an undergraduate Registered Nursing degree (completion of first year and first semester or trimester of second year), or currently enrolled in a TAFE NSW Diploma of Nursing (completion of identified foundational units in practice AND 120 hours of clinical placement).
