Job description

As Assistant Arboricultural Consultant for Maydencroft Limited your principal role will include the following:

  • Undertaking an ongoing programme of Tree Safety Inspections for Utility Company sites throughout the Thames Valley region;
  • Conducting detailed surveys and assessments of trees, which may involve examining tree health, stability, structural integrity, and risk assessment.
  • Recommending appropriate remedial works and setting prioritisation;
  • Use of Tree Management Software in the field, and to produce reports;
  • Working with our Arboricultural teams to guide the delivery of works on the ground;
  • Liaise with Utility Company representatives, landowners, and site managers as required;
  • Supporting the wider team with project management and contract administration;
  • Ensure safe working practices when accessing sites, and adhere to health, safety, environmental, and biosecurity protocols at all times. Standard working hours will be 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with the option to agree starting and finishing times.

We are seeking a diligent and skilled Assistant Arboricultural Consultant to undertake Tree Safety Inspections across a portfolio of Utility Company sites within the Thames Valley region. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing tree health, structural integrity, and potential risks, ensuring compliance with industry best practice, legal obligations, and client-specific requirements.

This is primarily a field-based role requiring strong technical knowledge, excellent judgement, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of reporting and data accuracy. The role will require the candidate to either already hold the Lantra Professional Tree Inspection (PTI) qualification or be willing to complete the training and qualification within the first 6-months of working with us. We will offer guidance and support through this process, and will cover associated costs.

  • Formal Arboricultural qualification (e.g. Level 3 Arboricultural, National Diploma or equivalent)
  • Lantra Professional Tree Inspector qualification, or willingness to achieve early in post
  • Able to demonstrate good all-round arboricultural knowledge
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and able to deal directly with clients
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Ability to use tree management software
  • Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel, Higher qualification, such as a Degree or Level 4 Arboriculture;
  • At least 3 years' experience working in the arboricultural industry, and some experience of undertaking Tree Safety Inspections;
  • Experience working on or around utility sites (power, gas, telecoms, water).
  • Use of Tree Management Software such as Ezytreev, Arbortrack and Pear Technology;
  • Technical proficiency in specialist software such as AutoCAD or similar mapping software;
  • Membership of the Arboricultural Association;
  • Strong IT skills and experience writing reports and producing mapping;
  • Knowledge and understanding about ecology and protected species.
  • First Aid certification and relevant utility site safety training (e.g.EUSR).

The position will largely be remote with occasional working from our offices at Pigeon House Farm (Dorney, Windsor, SL4 6QB) and One Garden City (Letchworth GC, Herts, SG6 3BF).

Starting salary of between £26,000- £31,000 per annum dependent upon candidate experience. 22 days annual leave (plus public holidays), with an annual increase of one day for every full year's service up to a maximum of 27 days;
