There are two Assistant Accountant roles available, supporting Finance, Strategy & Resource and Housing & Operations. If you have a specific interest in either of these areas, please make this clear in the Supporting Information section of your application.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support budget preparation, monitoring, and final accounts.
  • Lead on financial aspects of assigned service areas and council-wide projects.
  • Prepare statutory returns, reconciliations, and control accounts.
  • Provide financial advice and analysis to budget holders and service managers.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and board members.

Candidate Requirements

  • Financial qualification or recent and relevant experience that demonstrates finance proficiency.
  • Experience of computerised financial information systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to analyse financial data and present to non-financial recipients.
  • High attention to detail and a proactive, team-oriented approach.
  • Experience in local government finance is desirable but not essential.
