Are you calm, patient, and passionate about supporting children with autism? We’re looking for a dedicated ASC Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting in Gateshead, supporting pupils with autism and associated learning needs.
This is a rewarding role where you will play an important part in creating a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that allows children to flourish both academically and emotionally.
As an ASC Teaching Assistant, you will:
Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with autism and related needs
Assist with structured learning, communication development, and social interaction skills
Implement tailored strategies to help pupils regulate emotions and manage behaviour
Use sensory and visual supports to aid understanding and engagement
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to deliver personalised learning
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience supporting children or young people with autism or other SEND
A calm, compassionate, and resilient approach
Strong communication skills and confidence using visual and sensory aids
An understanding of strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or social stories (desirable but not essential)
A commitment to promoting inclusion, independence, and wellbeing

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
