Job description
Overview

During the apprenticeship you will work 5 days a week in Cummins, inclusive of 1 day per week for study at Darlington College. The working hours are Mon‑Fri 8:30 am – 4:30 pm: 3 days in the office, 1 day at home and 1 day studying at college. We are looking for an enthusiastic finance apprentice to join our team specialising in finance for our Global Centre of Accounts in Darlington, UK. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organisation operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry and power your potential.

Responsibilities
  • Compile, consolidate, and conduct basic analysis of accounting and finance information.
  • Assist with the production of monthly and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Make accounting adjustments through appropriate journal entries.
  • Assist with monthly and annual account reconciliations and close activities.
  • Examine a variety of financial statements and transactions for completeness, internal accuracy, and conformance with accounting standards; prepare tables, charts, and other exhibits for reports.
  • May perform less complex accounting projects or participate as a team member on more complex projects.
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation's standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with the production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as preparing or reviewing reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of the Level 3 AAT qualification, with progression to AAT Level 4.
  • GCSE or equivalent Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above) with three other subjects at Grade C/4 or above.
  • AAT Level 2 or A Level equivalent qualification in Accounting and Finance related field.
  • Proficient IT and MS Office skills (including Excel) – essential.
  • Good knowledge of double entry bookkeeping – essential.
  • UK resident who has lived in the UK for the last three years; previous EU/EEA resident must have pre‑settlement or settlement status.
  • Good organisational skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Additional skills: communication, IT, attention to detail, problem solving, presentation, administrative, number, analytical, logical, teamwork, creativity, initiative, non‑judgemental, patience.
  • Share any other relevant qualifications and industry experience; the apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
