Job summary

Halfords Autocentre Stranraer is hosting an Apprentice Auto Technician role in partnership with GTG Training. You’ll work alongside skilled technicians, gaining hands-on experience across inspection, servicing and repair of many vehicles, while progressing through recognised qualifications.

The position emphasizes problem‑solving, attention to detail, teamwork and a genuine commitment to building a career in the motor industry.

Qualifications

• National 4 (or above) in Maths, English and a Science or Technical subject (or equivalent).
• Enthusiasm for vehicles and mechanical work.
• Interest in building a career in the motor industry.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inspecting, servicing, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing a wide range of vehicles.
• Learn from experienced technicians and work with modern diagnostics and electrical systems.
• Support quality workmanship and safety through accurate work and clear communication.

Apprentice Auto Technician Halfords Autocentre Stranraer

Join Halfords as an Apprentice Auto Technician and gain hands‑on experience while working towards a recognised qualification with GTG Training.

About The Role

Based in our Stranraer Autocentre, you'll work alongside experienced technicians, learning how to inspect, service, maintain, diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicles. No two days are the same, with exposure to modern technologies, diagnostics and complex vehicle repairs.

We're looking for enthusiastic individuals with strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in building a career in the motor industry.

Working Hours

• 5-day working week
• 40 hours (under 18s) / 44 hours (18+)
• Autocentre opening hours: 8:00am to 6:00pm

Training & Qualifications

You’ll work towards:

• SCQF Level 5 Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
• Opportunity to progress to SCQF Level 7 after two years

Training includes workplace safety, vehicle servicing, maintenance, diagnostics, repairs and electrical systems, supported by dedicated GTG and Halfords mentors.
