Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 midwife to join our team within the Antenatal Outpatients Department and Maternity Day Unit. This role involves working in the Antenatal Clinic and the Maternity Day Unit alongside the established team and the wider multidisciplinary team.

The post is permanent, 22.5 hours a week, with hours varying between standard 7.5-hour days and 11.5-hour long days, typically between 0800 and 2000, Monday to Friday, with the possibility of weekend hours in the future.

The successful candidate will be an autonomous practitioner, responsible for providing antenatal care, and supporting high-risk and fetal medicine teams to deliver specialist services. Responsibilities include risk assessments, reviewing scan reports, planning and implementing care for both high and low-risk cases, and supporting team members and managers in the effective running of the antenatal clinical area.

You will support, supervise, and teach staff and students, ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures, and maintaining accurate records of care.

Key duties include providing comprehensive antenatal care from preconception through pregnancy, supporting complex cases managed by specialist and high-risk teams, and offering guidance and support to service users and their families.

You will oversee the daily operations of antenatal clinic activities, including ultrasound reviews, antenatal checks, and follow-up care, working within the Maternity Day Unit and supporting the high-risk and specialist teams to ensure standards and guidelines are followed.

You will provide expert advice as a professional within the Antenatal Outpatient Department and support care in early pregnancy loss following diagnosis, offering compassionate support to families. Additionally, you may support the maternity triage area as part of the wider team.

We pride ourselves on a welcoming environment, with staff described as "competent and caring" by our patients.

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is located on the scenic Wirral peninsula, offering excellent transport links and a range of high-quality acute care services. We employ over 6,000 staff serving a population of approximately 400,000 across Wirral, Ellesmere Port, Neston, North Wales, and beyond.

The Trust has around 855 beds and a turnover exceeding £337 million. Successful applicants will require a standard/enhanced DBS check, paid for by the Trust, and must join the DBS update service at their own cost (£16/year).
