About the Role

As an Android Engineer, you’ll play a key role in evolving Pelago’s member experience through our mobile app — the primary touchpoint for members engaging with their care journey. You’ll maintain and enhance our Android codebase while helping to pioneer our transition to a cross-platform architecture built on Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) and Compose Multiplatform (CMP).

You’ll collaborate closely with Android, iOS, and shared platform engineers, as well as product managers and designers, to deliver features that are performant, reliable, and delightful. This is a hands‑on development role that balances technical execution with creative problem‑solving — ensuring Pelago’s mobile app remains world‑class as it scales to reach more members globally.

This role is based in our London office, with in‑person collaboration two days per week (flexible for candidates living outside a 1‑hour commute; priority given to London‑based hires).

What You’ll Do
  • Build and maintain Pelago’s Android application, delivering exceptional experiences for members.
  • Contribute to our cross‑platform app development using Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) and Compose Multiplatform (CMP).
  • Implement new features, ensuring high‑quality code, maintainability, and adherence to Android and cross‑platform best practices.
  • Collaborate with designers and product managers to review wireframes and propose elegant, scalable solutions.
  • Partner with backend and shared platform engineers to integrate APIs and optimize app performance.
  • Maintain and improve our CI/CD pipelines (using Bitrise) for fast, reliable releases.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and agile ceremonies, contributing to an inclusive and collaborative engineering culture.
  • Help define and document architectural patterns to support Pelago’s cross‑platform evolution.
About You
  • 4+ years of professional experience in Android development.
  • Strong proficiency in Kotlin, with working knowledge of Java.
  • Solid understanding of Android architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture).
  • Hands‑on experience with Jetpack Compose, Hilt, Retrofit, and related Android libraries.
  • Exposure to or enthusiasm for Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) and Compose Multiplatform (CMP).
  • Experience integrating REST APIs and managing network/data layers efficiently.
  • Familiarity with Bitrise or equivalent CI/CD pipelines.
  • Comfortable working in an agile, collaborative environment with cross‑functional teams.
  • Based in London or within commuting distance (2 days/week in‑office).
Nice to Have
  • Experience contributing to cross‑platform mobile apps using KMP or CMP in production.
  • Familiarity with dependency injection frameworks (Hilt, Koin) and local data storage (SQLDelight, Room).
  • Experience improving build performance and optimizing Gradle configurations.
  • Understanding of iOS development concepts (to aid collaboration across teams).
  • Knowledge of mobile app security and performance best practices.
Why Pelago?
  • Be part of a mission‑driven, fast‑growing health tech company transforming behavioral health worldwide.
  • Work on a high‑impact member‑facing product that helps people improve their lives every day.
  • Join a collaborative, respectful, and transparent engineering culture where ideas win on merit.
  • Shape Pelago’s next‑generation cross‑platform architecture using KMP and CMP.
  • Competitive compensation packages.
  • Quarterly in‑person team events and opportunities for professional growth.
