Join a leading organization dedicated to preserving England’s waterways as an Ambassador. This role invites you to connect with the community, engage in events, and promote the value of canals. Enjoy the satisfaction of improving local awareness and appreciation while developing valuable communication skills.
Join the Canal & River Trust as an Ambassador and help to connect more people to our canals.
At Caen Hill Locks, the Canal & River Trust has a visitor centre based on a boat. We are looking for volunteers who can commit to one day a week at this popular location. This role offers you the chance to be the ‘face’ of the Trust, playing a key part in enhancing visitors' experience and fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of waterways.
Your responsibilities include engaging with visitors, informing them about the work of the Canal & River Trust, and sharing details about the local waterway, surrounding area, and the charity's mission. This role helps preserve our nation’s history and keeps canals vibrant. You will also have opportunities to support events, be part of a supportive team, and develop a deeper appreciation for our environment.
We aim to build support from those yet to discover our network. As an Ambassador, no two days are the same, and you will experience a variety of volunteer opportunities across our regions.
Why we want you
Our Ambassadors promote the value of our nation's canals and rivers by attending events, supporting campaigns like Share the Space, and engaging with the public and supporters. You will help represent the Trust and connect more people to our waterways, raising awareness and appreciation for canals.
Most of your activities will involve public events, inviting community members to join, learn, try activities, and discover more about the Trust. Other roles include Waterside Leader (leading activities such as guided walks), Rangers, Lock keepers, Explorers, Waterside Champions, and Youth Engagement roles.
