Overview

An exciting opportunity to join the Acute Intervention team as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. The post holder will work autonomously in the assessment, diagnosis and management of unspecified clinical conditions, while providing operational leadership to Bishop Auckland Hospital. The role includes ward-based duties at Bishop Auckland Hospital (9:00–17:00) with 24/7 emergency leadership responsibilities, and rotation to Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham on weekends to provide senior support.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites—Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham—and care from Bishop Auckland for planned services, along with services from community hospitals and in patientshomes. We particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates as these groups are under-represented.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure patient-centered care with a streamlined patient journey and high-quality care delivery.
  • As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, provide prompt responses to ward nursing staff calls, prioritising urgency and clinical need.
  • Assess, diagnose and treat, investigate, prescribe, and determine immediate care management for patients.
  • Act as team leader during medical emergencies and cardiac arrests, using advanced knowledge and skills to manage patients in these situations.
  • Provide highly visible nursing leadership and advise on operational issues as they arise.
  • Contribute to patient flow and service efficiency across the organisation.
  • Act as a patient safety and clinical quality champion, ensuring safe, high-quality services.
  • Provide specialist education and training to ward nursing staff and others as required.
Requirements/Qualifications
  • Evidence of working at an advanced level of practice with autonomy in assessment, diagnosis and management of clinical conditions.
  • Ability to perform pre-employment checks; provide all essential certificates as stated in the person specification.
  • Eligibility for sponsorship considerations where applicable, with a current visa status reviewed against organisational criteria.
  • Availability to work the stated hours and participate in weekend rotations as required.
