About the Role

Within Therapy Services, the Lymphoedema Service delivers specialist lymphoedema advice and care to patients with cancer across both hospital sites. The service operates as part of a multidisciplinary therapies team that provides rehabilitation, risk‑reduction advice and management to high‑risk groups including breast, gynaecological cancer and sarcoma patients.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision to a multidisciplinary lymphoedema team.
  • Lead the lymphoedema therapists in delivering a high‑quality service throughout the hospital.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate clinical standards, service pathways and performance processes to meet departmental and commissioning targets.
  • Support internal training needs and service development, creating a training programme for continuous professional development.
  • Lead patient engagement and empowerment initiatives, tracking journeys and capturing feedback to improve experience and learning.
  • Ensure all lymphoedema practitioners are competent in the use of assessment equipment and maintain evidence‑based practice.
  • Serve as a source of knowledge and expertise for patients, carers and multidisciplinary colleagues, supporting development of resources that enhance empowerment and quality of care.
  • Coordinate care pathways, including appropriate and timely discharge, in partnership with the Operational Lead.
  • Demonstrate a positive and realistic attitude toward patients, addressing physiological, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural needs.
  • Maintain specialist clinical expertise, acting as the Advanced Practitioner and clinical expert for the lymphoedema service.
Professional Requirements
  • Highly professional and enthusiastic nurse or allied health professional with significant experience caring for cancer‑related lymphoedema patients.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and prioritisation skills with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Commitment to education and service development.
  • Clinical judgment, knowledge, and skills to act as an autonomous practitioner.
