Accounting and Financial Reporting Assistant Based in Milton Keynes Salary is £26,000 - £28,000 plus benefits

Robert Walters is delighted to be supporting a respected professional services firm in their search for an Accounting and Financial Reporting Assistant to join their growing Outsourcing team in Milton Keynes. This is an excellent opportunity to progress your finance career in a supportive environment, working with a varied portfolio of clients and gaining exposure to a wide range of accounting processes.

What you'll do
  • Processing purchase invoices accurately and matching them to purchase orders across multiple clients.
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of client bank payments in line with established procedures.
  • Supporting complex bank reconciliations and ensuring transactions are correctly cleared and matched.
  • Responding promptly to internal and external queries relating to invoices and reconciliations.
  • Posting transactions to the General Ledger and ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial data.
  • Preparing month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments, and fixed asset postings.
  • Maintaining strong client relationships through professional, timely communication.
  • Ensuring compliance with all client processes, approval workflows, and payment procedures.
  • Managing a varied workload effectively across multiple clients and deadlines.
  • Providing support and training to junior colleagues, including school leavers, in accounts payable processes.
What you'll bring

You will have experience in transactional finance-ideally within outsourcing, shared services, or similar environments-alongside strong communication and organisational skills.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C or above.
  • A solid understanding of accounts payable/receivable processes.
  • Hands‑on invoice processing including PO matching and resolving discrepancies.
  • Bank reconciliation experience, including clearing, matching, and investigating outstanding items.
  • Experience posting to the General Ledger, with an understanding of how transactions flow through financial systems.
  • Month‑end support, including preparing or assisting with journals (accruals, prepayments, fixed assets).
  • Good Excel skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Professional communication skills via phone and email.
  • ERP experience
