Job summary

A UK-based game development company is seeking an experienced 3D artist to take an art leadership role on a small project. The role requires solid knowledge of Unity and/or Unreal, alongside a collaborative and empathetic approach. Applicants should demonstrate good modeling skills and leadership qualities. This position offers the flexibility to work fully remote within the UK.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Radical Forge is a Middlesbrough, UK-based developer that has provided co-development services on a range of AAA and indie titles. In 2021, the company created their first original IP, 'Bright Paw', which was published on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One/Series S/X, Google, and iOS by Rogue Games. We are currently working on our newest IP, Southfield.

Your Mission

We are looking for a reliable and experienced 3D artist to take an art leadership role on a small project, working collaboratively alongside other disciplines. The ideal candidate is a team player with an inclusive and empathetic approach to teamwork and has varied stylized art experience.

Core Responsibilities
  • Art direction: defining art deliverables, quality, and player experience on a per-project basis.
  • Reviewing work and feedback: acting as an art team lead, reviewing work of other team members, and assisting with tasks to help the overall project schedule.
  • Modelling: tackling most art tasks, aiding others, and documenting processes.
  • Time estimation: meeting time estimates and utilizing remaining time to polish existing work.
  • Process and pipelines: showing leadership skills, guiding and mentoring art staff, and demonstrating creativity in problem-solving artistic development challenges.
  • Ongoing improvement: setting artistic standards, demonstrating best practices, and tracking consistent art quality.
  • Tools and asset management: assisting in correcting art and technical issues, addressing bugs, and working with the art team to mitigate future problems.
  • Engine experience: solid working knowledge of game engines (Unity preferred, Unreal Engine nice to have).
Skills and Knowledge Required
  • Good knowledge of working within Unity and/or Unreal Engines.
  • Modelling and texturing of props and environment assets.
  • Optimization of assets and collision data for memory and frame rate across multiple platforms.
  • High to low polygon workflow.
  • Experience of shader-based texture/material workflows.
  • Character modelling experience (a bonus).
  • Experience using Maya, Blender, 3DS max, ZBrush.
  • Adobe Suite, including Substance painter/designer and Photoshop.
  • Experience documenting processes in Confluence, Miro, or similar.
  • Version control software (Perforce, GIT).
  • Task management (Jira).
  • Adaptive communication skills, written and spoken.

This role can be fully remote within the UK. We require all applicants to have a pre-existing right to work in the UK. The role will initially be a 12-month Fixed Term contract with the potential to extend after this.
