Job description
Overview

Lead Nurse/Practitioner for Workforce Development (12 months, maternity cover) – NHS Band 7. The post is for a nurse, midwife or allied health professional to lead a team of Practice Educators and Pastoral Support Workers to deliver high quality evidence-based learning and development opportunities across Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Hours: 30 hours per week. Work pattern: primarily Monday to Friday 8am–6pm with occasional weekend work to support attendance at local university and college open days.

Location: Pogmoor Road, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, S75 2EP.

Responsibilities
  • Lead on the implementation of Prepare to Care and the Care Certificate for Care Support Workers.
  • Lead on the ongoing development, maintenance and monitoring of a quality preceptorship package for newly qualified practitioners, based on NHS England Standards; lead on the delivery of clinical induction through Prepare to Nurse for newly qualified nurses.
  • Lead on development, maintenance and monitoring of quality-assured, evidence-based clinical skills training for all non-medical staff, ensuring adherence to NMC and HCPC requirements and alignment with the Trust 0s strategic objectives and operational plans.
  • Provide leadership and management for pastoral support workers and practice educators; co-chair the Trustwide Practice Educator forum.

Requirements

Essential Experience and Qualifications

  • Registered Healthcare Professional (NMC/HCPC).
  • Substantial post-registration experience; experience of leadership; experience of managing a team; experience of inter-professional working; experience of report writing; experience of managing change.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development; recognised qualification relating to teaching or supporting learners in practice; desirable PG Cert Health Professional Education.

Knowledge & Awareness

  • Knowledge of current issues affecting education in healthcare, quality monitoring, and the role of HEE.
  • Knowledge of clinical workforce career progression (including TNA, TAP and RNDA) and the Care Certificate; knowledge of clinical skills education.

  • Current UK professional registration required (NMC/HCPC).
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required; this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and requires submission to DBS.
