UK RESIDENTIAL WELFARE MANAGER

Title: Welfare Manager (Residential)

Dates: June 22nd to August 1st 2026 (possibility of extension in some centres)

MLA WELFARE AND SAFEGUARDING STATEMENT

MLA is dedicated to the welfare and safeguarding of all students. All staff must undergo a safe recruitment process, including background checks, and adhere to the Safeguarding Policy, Preventing Sexual Harassment and Prevent Policy.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Responsible for the care, safeguarding and welfare of all students during the summer camp. This senior role reports to the Centre Director and Operations Manager and requires full‑time residential employment from mid‑June to mid‑August.

  • Complete all required, paid training and induction meetings.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for student welfare concerns.
  • Lead the delivery of high‑quality welfare and pastoral support.
  • Monitor student wellbeing and take proactive steps.
  • Implement safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Respond to accidents, incidents and emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate safeguarding records.
  • Use MLA software effectively.
REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • UK passport and right to work in the UK, plus a valid DBS (England & Wales) or PVG (Scotland). If based outside the UK, a criminal record check is required.
  • Proven suitability to work with students under 18 – at least 2 references.
  • Proficiency in basic IT skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in a UK or Irish summer school.
  • Prior managerial experience.
  • First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience in welfare, pastoral care, safeguarding or student support.
  • Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding.
  • Volunteer and active group experience.

SCHEDULE & PAY

Contract: up to 44 hours per week, 6 working days with one day off. Residential employment includes all meals and accommodation.

Annual salary: £550 per week (£616 including holiday pay). Complimentary room and full board included. Paid training and induction, professional development opportunities, and potential for promotion.
