Overview

The Cardiology Department at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust offers a range of high-quality cardiology and respiratory diagnostic procedures to residents of Barnsley and surrounding areas as inpatients, outpatients or as direct access referrals from General Practitioners. The post holder will be suitably qualified to a high standard in order to carry out duties, as the content of this work has a high direct impact on patient treatment and safety.

To provide a clinical technical service that includes routine ECG, exercise tolerance testing (both doctor and physiologist supervised), 24 hour ambulatory monitoring, angiography, spirometry, pulsoximetry and full lung function testing. Procedures will be carried out on a range of patients where there may be exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances. Exposure to patient body odours, body fluids and secretions may occur frequently. Training within echocardiography and pacing services to accreditation level.

To analyse and assess test results against acceptability criteria.

To work within agreed professional policies and protocols/procedures without direct supervision.

Daily concentration on tests is a predictable pattern. Prolonged concentration for monitoring patients on extended tests.

Responsible for data entry, text processing and storage of data on Tomcat, MUSE, McKesson Cardiology System and Sentinel systems. Occasional requirement to create spreadsheets e.g., medical devices.

Responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Enthusiastic, efficient and motivated Cardio-respiratory Physiologist at Band 5 level, with progression planned to Band 6 and Band 7 on accreditation with The British Society of Echocardiography or The British Heart Rhythm Society.
  • Candidates must have, or be in year 3 of the BSc Healthcare Science (Cardiac Physiology) Degree, or equivalent.
  • Ability to work well in a team, commit to providing a high quality, efficient and effective service, and set high personal standards. Must be diligent, enthusiastic, hardworking, and able to communicate effectively with staff, patients and the public.
