A leading fintech company in Berlin is seeking a Tech Lead for Engineering Enablement to guide a team focused on maximizing engineering productivity and quality. We currently employ 240+ people across Europe with our headquarters based in Berlin, Germany, and hubs in Tallinn, Estonia, and London, UK. We would consider hiring remotely for this role.
As Tech Lead for Engineering Enablement (f/m/d) at Upvest, you will guide a team dedicated to maximizing engineering productivity, quality, and satisfaction. Your mission is to create an exceptional developer experience that enables our engineering teams to build, test, and deploy high-quality software, efficiently, whilst meeting compliance and security requirements with ease. Through innovative tooling, automation, and streamlined workflows, you\'ll create paved roads for our engineers to move fast and create value for our investment products.
Build and nurture the Engineering Enablement team, focused on enhancing engineering productivity and satisfaction
Contribute to the strategic roadmap, in collaboration with technical product management, for developer tooling, automation, and workflow improvements
Implement metrics to measure engineering productivity, quality, and compliance, using data to guide improvements
Implement streamlined CI/CD pipelines and processes that balance speed of delivery with security and quality
Collaborate with security and compliance teams to integrate guardrails that protect without impeding velocity
Cultivate engineering excellence through shared best practices, standards, and documentation
Partner with engineering leaders to identify and address friction points and productivity bottlenecks
Design and implement "paved road" experiences that provide well-documented workflows for common engineering tasks, reducing cognitive load while maintaining flexibility for innovation and expansion
Enable effective onboarding experiences for new engineers
Having worked as a software engineer yourself, you understand developer needs and challenges
Experience in guiding teams focused on developer productivity, platform engineering, and developer experience
A fearless and proactive approach to software development. Refactoring your projects and working with other teams’ codebases is a natural part of your daily work
Knowledge of modern CI/CD practices (GitHub Actions, GitOps), testing frameworks, and developer tooling ecosystems
Strong expertise in Secure Software Development Life Cycle (SSDLC) practices and implementation
Familiarity with developer portals, internal platforms, and self-service tooling
Experience implementing developer-centric security and compliance controls within development processes (static analysis, dependency scanning, policy enforcement)
Effective communication skills for connecting technical concepts with business value
Data-informed approach to measuring and improving engineering efficiency
Demonstrated success in attracting, developing, and retaining diverse engineering talent
Experience with AI-assisted development workflows and LLM integration into tool chains
Good understanding of Kubernetes, mesh networking and service discovery
Knowledge of authentication systems and API gateways such as Kong
