The Data Science department uses statistical modeling, machine learning and optimization techniques to continuously improve business processes at NEW YORKER. We work in agile project teams on a variety of use cases, including order optimization, pricing, distribution and logistics. We are a very ambitious and international team and are proud of our high standards.
Responsibilities
- Pro-actively maintain and monitor our distributed infrastructure and data pipelines (Spark, Airflow), reacting promptly to errors and outages
- Drive the evolution of our data platform toward modern, scalable infrastructure
- Monitor and analyze runtime behavior, including runtimes, resource usage and error rates across all data science pipelines
- Participate in on‑call rotations for platform reliability and incident response
- Implement and enforce logging and monitoring strategies to make pipeline runtime characteristics transparent
- Manage the data science development environment, installing and configuring required software and tools
- Work with data engineering, data science, network, and datacenter teams to optimize system boundaries
- Coordinate with suppliers and datacenter services to ensure hardware issues are fixed promptly
- Maintain operational documentation and share knowledge through code reviews and mentoring
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, systems engineering, or platform operations
- The willingness and ability to work in a team with strong communication and hands‑on mentality
- The ability to work in a structured, independent and self‑driven manner while aligning proactively with your team
- Strong programming skills with a keen eye on scalability and maintainability in Python and Bash
- Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong Linux system administration skills
- Understanding of big data infrastructure, networking, distributed systems and working with data
- Languages: German (B1+, conversational) and English (fluent)
