The instructional designer is responsible for leading the development of instructional materials for virtual and instructor‑led learning.

What you'll do
  • You will support the execution of the company's safety training strategy in partnership with stakeholders, including business leaders and subsidiary Safety, Quality and Operational leaders.
  • You will support the identification of performance gaps and determine appropriate training solutions. This includes audience analysis to understand learner needs.
  • You will create clear, measurable, and actionable learning objectives (using Bloom's Taxonomy).
  • You will partner with Subject Matter Experts and translate complex information into clear, accessible, and easily understood learning content.
  • You will participate in field observations to gain direct knowledge of real world work and scenarios, ensuring training content accurately reflects on‑job realities and processes.
  • You will design, develop, and standardize training curriculum in instructor‑led and e‑learning formats. This includes:
    • Creating detailed storyboards, writing clear and concise scripts for narration, and structuring content logically for asynchronous learning.
    • Designing and developing comprehensive facilitator guides, participant workbooks, job aids, presentation slides, and interactive activities (e.g., case studies, hands‑on operational activities, role‑plays, group discussions).
    • Using a variety of tools and technologies to create dynamic training materials.
  • You will support photo and video shoots for training content, collaborating with the production crew and talent to ensure captured footage aligns with scripts and content needs.
  • Develop effective assessments for virtual and instructor‑led training including knowledge checks, quizzes, and skill‑based evaluations.
  • You will assist in the implementation and communication of training initiatives.
What you'll need
  • To be 18 years of age or older
  • Authorization to work in the United States for this company
  • To have a Bachelor's Degree or certificate in Education, Training & Development, Telecommunications, or Construction Management. Equivalent experience considered
  • At least 3 to 4 years of instructional or curriculum design experience
  • Knowledge of construction or utility industries (preferred)
  • Experience with authoring tools (preferably Articulate), graphic design, video editing, animation, and AI prompting
  • Knowledge and ability to use various instructional design methodologies (ADDIE, SAM, etc.) and different types and levels of assessment (including the Kirkpatrick Model)
  • Experience working with learning management systems (LMS) and have an understanding of course publishing standards (ie SCORM)
  • To think creatively to solve design challenges and find the most effective learning solutions for a given problem.
  • A high degree of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office or Google Suites
Physical abilities & exposures
  • Routinely:
    • Engage in standard office activities such as standing, sitting, and using computers for extended periods.
  • Occasionally:
    • Able to travel domestically (approximately 20-30% of the time) by car and air
  • To be able to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced and changing environment
