The Institute of Materials Systems Modeling of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon is offering a 3-year Postdoc position, starting on 1st February 2026. In project Computational modeling of Blue Materials from the atomic scale to the macro-scale, you will explore how the behavior of water-driven materials can be modeled across different scales by computer simulations.

Responsibilities
  • Develop scale-bridging modeling techniques for Blue Materials, including the solid-water interactions that govern the behavior of these materials
  • Explore how peridynamics can be leveraged for modeling Blue Materials
  • Implementation of computational methods using state-of-the-art methods of High Performance Computing (HPC)
Profile & Qualifications

Recruitment requirement

  • Completed PhD degree, in particular in the subject areas of computational engineering or computational physics

Required knowledge and personal skills

  • Strong background in computational science and engineering on the meso- and macro-scale
  • Strong background in applied mathematics
  • Experience in research software engineering including advanced skills in C++ programming
  • Strong background in peridynamics demonstrated by a substantial track record of publications in this field

Desired knowledge and personal skills

  • Beneficial is the experience in using peridynamics for modeling problems including diffusive mass transport and chemical reactions
