A leading research university in Germany is seeking a Research Associate in climate feedbacks for the project M4 within the Cluster of Excellence. The Cluster of Excellence “Climate, Climatic Change, and Society” (CLICCS) investigates climate dynamics and climate-related social dynamics, as well as the interactions between the two. To this end, we are looking for colleagues from a wide range of disciplines, including the natural sciences as well as the social sciences. Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications. They may also pursue doctoral studies outside of working duties.
The position allows for pursuing qualification for a PhD degree. A successful applicant will develop wetting and drying schemes for a numerical coastal ocean model (ICON-Coast). They will perform detailed analysis of the numerical method with respect to conservation and stability properties, will implement the method considering the model infrastructure and performance, will perform rigorous testing and documentation. It is expected that results of this research and development project are published in scientific literature and presented at international conferences.
A university degree in a relevant field.
The candidate will be part of working group “Numerical Methods in Geosciences”, which features a hospitable, multi-cultural, supportive, and engaging working atmosphere. As a PhD candidate they will become members of the School of Integrated Climate and Earth System Sciences (SICCS), which offers dedicated training courses, seminars, and mentoring.
