Job Description:

As Linux Software Engineer, you will be a key part of our System Architecture team to develop and maintain the Linux-based systems powering our unmanned aerial vehicles at Quantum-Systems. You will work closely with stakeholders from Avionics, Systems Engineering, and Flight Testing departments to integrate hardware, third-party software, and onboard applications into a high-performance Linux platform.

Your role includes providing a reliable, scalable, and mission-critical software environment that has a significant impact on our operations.

Daily Responsibilities:

• Maintain and develop Linux applications for unmanned aircraft
• Design and coordinate interfaces between teams, document architecture and decisions
• Integrate hardware and third-party software into the Linux system, liaising with suppliers and teams
• Test applications, including writing various types of tests
• Analyze flight logs from test and real-world flights
• Debug and resolve software and hardware issues
• Maintain and extend build systems, pipelines, and tooling; create releases with notes
• Work within an agile development environment following established processes

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• 3+ years of Linux software development experience, preferably in embedded or robotics systems
• Proficiency in C/C++ (>=14), with Linux application development experience
• Understanding of Linux internals, system services, device trees, kernel modules
• Experience with cross-compilation, Yocto, Buildroot, or similar
• Hands-on debugging skills (GDB, strace, perf) and log analysis
• Knowledge of testing methodologies and CI/CD pipelines
• Strong problem-solving skills for software and hardware issues
• Proficiency in technical documentation and effective communication
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken

Preferred extras include experience in aerospace, UAV, or automotive industries, familiarity with middleware standards like DDS, MAVLink, CAN, Ethernet, and knowledge of containerization and virtualization. Experience in Agile/Scrum and real-time Linux or safety-critical software development is a plus.
