A leading natural history organization in Saarbrücken seeks a collection manager with expertise in invertebrate paleontology. The role involves managing the Macropaleontology Collection, focusing on inventory, loans, and collaboration with a dedicated team. Candidates should have a master's degree in invertebrate paleontology and experience with scientific collections. Proficiency in German (C1) and excellent English skills are required. This position offers the opportunity to work on significant projects related to collection relocation and exhibition support.
Professional skills: You are familiar with collection management of natural science collections and have a strong grasp of the taxonomy of invertebrates (macropaleontology) or a group thereof.
Collection Responsibility: Your responsibilities include the management and reorganization of the Macropaleontology Collection (Invertebrates). You are responsible for the inventory of objects and the loan system, as well as for the careful preparation of the collection for relocation.
Collaboration: You will work with the curator on a daily basis to develop collection priorities. You value collaboration with collection managers, preparators, and the digitization team.
Projects: Your main project in the coming years will be to prepare the collection for our move and reorganize it at the Museum St. Johann. You will support the consolidation and conversion of digital object data according to international standards (including inventory).
Education: You will provide occasional support to the exhibition team in the implementation of the new permanent exhibitions (object searches, specialist information) and work on new educational formats, such as our future visible collections.
Experience: Ideally, you already have work experience with scientific collections and the handling of collection objects as well as knowledge of collection management systems and imaging techniques such as optical microscopy and SEM.
Personality: You are characterized by your friendly, open, and warm manner. Transparent communication, exchange, and flexibility are important to you. You enjoy working independently, show initiative, and contribute to various work groups.
Education: In addition to your scientific training (paleontology, geology), you hold a master’s degree with a specialization in invertebrate paleontology. You also have a solid knowledge of taxonomics and geology.
Language: You have a good command of German (at least C1) and very good written and spoken English skills.
