Your role

As our Accounting Lead (m/f/d) you will be the core owner and hands‑on expert for all operational accounting and financial reporting matters across our European entities. You will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timely completion of all internal and external financial statements (HGB).

In addition you will be instrumental in defining, building and leading our future Accounting team. To enable this growth you will actively drive efficiency and structure across the function managing critical tools, implementing robust approval processes and meticulously monitoring all incoming and outgoing payments.

Your responsibilities

• Actively drive the expansion and management of our accounting team, implement new processes and improve existing ones.
• Manage our finance and budget software Finway, implement approval processes and monitor incoming and outgoing payments.
• Own the internal bookkeeping documentation and reporting process.
• Responsible for preparing timely monthly financial data and providing clear reports, calculations and financial statistics to support internal stakeholders and management.
• Monitor and report on cash flow and support detailed liquidity forecasting.
• Responsible for the smooth operation and continued development of the finance software and internal payment approval flows.
• Manage the entire operational financial accounting in accordance with the German Commercial Code (HGB) and international standards (IFRS).
• Serve as the primary contact for our external tax consultant and auditors, facilitating all audit processes.
• Ensure the timely preparation and completion of monthly and annual financial statements as well as the necessary preparation of annual tax returns and required reports across all jurisdictions.

Your profile

• Completed studies with a focus on Accounting and Finance (e.g. Accounting, Taxes, Financial Management, Business Administration) or comparable qualifications.
• Proven several years of professional experience in core financial accounting, ideally in a high‑growth startup or multi‑entity environment.
• Excellent detailed knowledge of operational accounting and the German Commercial Code (HGB) and proven experience applying IFRS for group reporting.
• Highly desirable pluses:
• Knowledge of US‑GAAP due to planned US expansion.
• Experience dealing with SaaS‑like recurring revenue models.
• Previous experience in people management, mentoring or leading small teams.
• Strong affinity for financial process implementation optimization and digital finance tools.
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Strong hands‑on mentality with the ability to analyze critical issues in detail and actively contribute to their solution.
• Analytical thinking, sense of responsibility, high self‑motivation, commitment and strong affinity for numbers.
• True start‑up mindset: innovative, dynamic, committed & resilient.
• Very good German and English skills are a must.

Kipu Quantum is a German startup focused on quantum computing with offices in Karlsruhe and Berlin. We specialize in developing quantum algorithms tailored for specific applications and hardware. Our solutions help various industries – including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, logistics and finance – to tackle complex problems using existing quantum hardware. We aim to make practical quantum computing accessible by significantly reducing the time needed to achieve quantum advantage for real‑world applications.
