Offer Description

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is one of the largest universities in Germany. At the IAW Mainz, ancient cultures and languages ranging from Central and Southern Europe to Egypt and the Near East are researched in an interdisciplinary manner, including their reception in later periods.

  • Independent research with the aim of obtaining a doctorate/habilitation
  • Teaching 2 SWS in classical philology, as well as advising and supervising students

In addition to the general requirements according to public services law and the recruitment requirements stipulated in § 57 of the Hochschulgesetz of Rhineland‑Palatinate, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • A very good degree in a scientific subject, preferably in Latin, ideally in combination with Greek
  • If you are applying for a postdoctoral qualification: a relevant doctorateIf you are applying for a predoctoral qualification: a scholarship from a scholarship foundation or willingness to apply for one
  • Ability and willingness to teach in German
