Offer Description

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is one of the largest universities in Germany. The position is to be filled at the German Institute in Department 05: Philosophy and Philology.

  • Collaboration in research with a focus on historical grammar and a contrastive approach (Germanic languages and/or varieties of German)
  • Support in acquiring third-party funding and organizing specialist conferences/workshops
  • Teaching (8 semester hours per week) in historical linguistics of German, including the above-mentioned areas of focus
  • Continuous support for the executive management
  • Support in the accreditation/reaccreditation of degree programs
  • Independent development of concepts for student recruitment and external presentation of the institute (CHE ranking, advertising, flyers, social media, university platforms, etc.)
  • Joint Responsibility for the structure and content of theInstitute's website

In addition to the general requirements according to public services law, applicants must meet the recruitment requirements stipulated in§ 57 of the Hochschulgesetz of Rhineland-Palatinate:

  • A successfully completed scientific university degree inGerman linguistics with a focus on language history
  • A doctorate in a field relevant to the position, in Historical Linguistics
  • Post-graduation at least 2.5 years of experience in a primary occupation
  • Experience in university teaching (corresponding to the subject profile)
  • Experience in academic self-administration, preferably in the development and (re-)accreditation of degree programs
  • Very good written and spoken German (C2 level)

If the legal requirements for civil servants are not (or not yet) met, employment as an academic member of staff may be possible.
