The Locum Program addresses staffing needs in the Eastern Zone through short-term assignments. Reporting to the Site Lead or Health Services Manager, the Registered Nurse uses the nursing process and therapeutic relationships to help clients and families attain or maintain optimal health. The nurse plans and delivers care, provides guidance and leadership within the scope of the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia standards, and collaborates with colleagues and other health professionals. Work may involve various rural facilities, including Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital, Eastern Memorial Hospital, Guysborough Memorial Hospital, Strait Richmond Hospital, and St. Mary’s Hospital.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications, which vary by facility and need:

• Licensed or eligible for licensure with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN).
• Emergency nursing experience: minimum 1 year for Medical/Surgical areas, 3 years for Emergency Department areas.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; ALS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred.
• Additional certifications (e.g., CTAS, PALS, TNCC) are assets depending on the area.
• Experience working in rural settings is an asset.
• Competency in other languages, especially French, is an asset.

• Full-time, 75 hours bi-weekly.
• Assignments last 3 to 6 months.
• Shifts include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Hourly rate: $40.55 - $49.99, with $51.74 for 25+ years of experience. A shift premium of $6/hour applies during assignments.
