CHYS 4P80 -The Disciplinary Continuum

Compensation

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.

· Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $22.07 per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $34.73 per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Duties

1. The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1,Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation ofseminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and othercourse administration as may be required).
2. Marker-Grader responsibilities will be required. The marker-grader is expected to mark assignments, term projects, case reports,midterms, progress exams, and/or final exams and must be prepared to provide written feedback to students that will clearly identify thebasis of the grade assigned; whether it is due to substantive content, or to written communications, including spelling, punctuation,grammar, and overall structure and organization of the submission.
3. Must be available to attend the final 60 minutes of lecture each week.
4. Must be available to meet with Instructor as necessary, between the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM.

Qualifications

1. Minimum 4h Year complete in the CHYS BA or CHYS BA/BEd program, or be entering and/or continuing in the CHYS MA or CHYS
PhD program. .
2. Must have previously completed CHYS 4P80 or equivalent*, and obtained 80% or higher. Previous successful experience as a TeachingAssistant for CHYS 4P80 will be considered as equivalent.
3. Must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students. Provide, if available, an evaluationof successful previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Marker-Grader.
4. Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
