The Team

At the Prince George Fire Centre, you'll join a dynamic and established team of diverse individuals dedicated to working together towards a common goal of wildfire management and safety. Our team comprises both Unit crews, made up of 22 people, and Initial Attack crews, made up of 4, with initial attack bases hosting between 19 and 81 members. As a part of this team, you'll collaborate with professionals in wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery from across the province. The Fire Crew leader plays a critical role in executing fire suppression and hazard plans, ensuring crews are effectively mobilized in incident response. In this role, you\'ll lead crews on the fireline and in day-to-day fieldwork around their communities, playing a vital part in keeping these communities safe and resilient. Your work in wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery will have a direct impact across the province. Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Grade 12 or equivalent; OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and education may be considered; AND
  • 2 seasons forest fire related experience; AND
  • Valid Intermediate First Aid* (formally known as First Aid Ticket OFA Level 2 with Transportation endorsement; AND
  • Successful completion of New Recruit Boot Camp or Agency Equivalent; AND
  • Successfully complete pre-employment fitness standard; AND
  • AND Valid Intermediate First Aid* (formally known as First Aid Ticket OFA Level 12 with Transportation endorsement; AND
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.

*Intermediate First Aid is the new name for Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 2, as of November 2024. The name change is part of a restructuring of first aid courses in British Columbia to align with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).

Preference may be given to candidates with a combination of, or all, of the following:

  • Attended BC Wildfire Provincial Crew Leader training or agency equivalent.
  • Prior Supervisory experience.
  • Prior Fireline Supervisory experience
  • Incident Commander 5 certification or higher as per the Incident Command System
  • Previous BC Wildfire Crew Leader experience such as a temporary assignment as a Crew Leader.
  • Single Resource Leader 1 certification or higher.
  • Higher education in Resource Management or related field.
  • Experience delivering education or training to adult audiences.
  • Qualified Faller Assessor, Qualified Faller Trainer, Certified Faller or Faller in Training, or industry equivalent.

  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments, and corporate structures.
  • To keep current on emerging issues.
  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat, and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
  • To obtain and maintain certification and training for crew positions to meet operational requirements
