Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Global Technical Support, you will serve as the Resident Engineer for a strategic customer based in Newbury, UK. You will be responsible for delivering advanced post-sales technical support across CIENA’s optical transport and network management product lines, including 6500, RLS, Waveserver, and MCP.

  • Act as the primary technical contact, providing on-site and remote support for Ciena products.
  • Troubleshoot complex system-level issues and recommend network solutions.
  • Create and review customer-facing documentation (e.g., MOPs, RCAs) and perform network audits and health checks.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with development, service, and sales teams to resolve incidents and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Travel occasionally based on customer requirements (no on-call duty in this assignment; possible in future roles).
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2–5 years in technical support, preferably with a telecom equipment vendor.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Expertise in DWDM, ROADM, OTN, Broadband, Photonics, and switching/transport technologies.
    • Hands-on experience with Ciena platforms (6500, RLS, Waveserver) and network management solutions.
    • Strong knowledge of amplifiers, CDC configurations, and associated modules.
    • Familiarity with optical test equipment and network performance tools.
    • Proficiency in troubleshooting and debugging complex fiber optic system-level issues.
    • Understanding of data communications protocols and interoperability between products.
  • Tools & Automation: Experience writing Python scripts or similar for automation and workflow enhancements.
