A major international airport is seeking a Vice President, Commercial Services & Chief Commercial Officer to lead revenue generation and commercial activities. The ideal candidate will have extensive executive experience in managing diverse business lines and enhancing revenue through strategic partnerships. This influential opportunity is based in Vancouver, BC, with a competitive salary range of $300,000 - $350,000 plus bonuses and benefits.
Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is a diverse global hub that connects people, cargo, data, and ideas and serves as a platform for the community to come together and thrive. It is motivated by supporting regional economic development and making a positive difference in the lives of British Columbians. It does this with a focus on serving passengers, partners, employees, and community through digital modernization, climate leadership, reconciliation, and financial sustainability. YVR operates as a private, non-shareholder corporation, overseen by a community appointed board of directors. Revenues are reinvested back into the operation for the benefit of our community and the economy it serves.
As Canada's second-busiest airport and a key connecting hub between North America and Asia Pacific, YVR is on track for its busiest year ever in 2025 with more than 26-million passengers and nearly 350,000 tonnes of cargo forecast to move through it. Currently serving 52 airlines and 121 destinations, YVR operations generate $15 billion in annual GDP for the Canadian economy and support more than 26,000 direct jobs at the airport and more than 100,000 jobs across British Columbia.
Reporting directly to the President & Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President, Commercial Services & Chief Commercial Officer (“Chief Commercial Officer” or “CCO”) is a key member of YVR’s Executive Team. The Chief Commercial Officer’s portfolio brings together real estate, commercial strategy, food & beverage, retail, advertising partnerships, data products, business development and commercial marketing - into one focused, integrated portfolio. This portfolio enables an integrated and expansive view of growth across YVR, using its assets, data, partnerships and platforms to unlock new opportunities and deliver greater impact.
The Chief Commercial Officer is accountable for leading YVR’s revenue and value creation, empowering the organization to push beyond industry boundaries of what it means to be an airport and act as a force multiplier as YVR looks to fulfill its Purpose. This role oversees all non-aeronautical revenue streams (e.g. retail and duty-free shops, restaurants, food concession, parking, car rental, advertising, real estate development and leases) and works in partnership with key executives to bring strategic cohesion to growth efforts across channels and markets. The role is responsible for defining commercial activities across the airport in line with the strategic plan and for working across multiple stakeholders to align commercial objectives with operational resilience, customer excellence and short- and long-term value creation.
The ideal candidate for this high-impact role is an executive with a broad background that includes: managing multiple different business lines, enhancing revenues, using consumer data to identify customer needs, developing commercial partnerships, and/or innovatively growing a retail-oriented business. Backgrounds could include resorts, large-scale transportation, infrastructure, aviation or similar complex, stakeholder-rich environment. Exposure to both public and private sector environments is an asset, as is scaling a commercial function. Armed with an innovative ethos and impeccable interpersonal skills, the preferred person brings high organizational acuity and the intellect to identify and maximize a broad commercial mandate.
Based in Vancouver, BC, this is an influential opportunity to own a critical and future-looking portfolio for one of the most diverse and well-respected organizations in Canada.
The expected base salary for this role is in the range of $300,000 - $350,000 + short term and long term bonuses and generous benefit package.
