Job description
Overview

Calian Learning Solutions is seeking full-time Vehicle Technician Instructors to join our team at CFB Borden. These roles are Unilingual (English only required).

Responsibilities
  • Provide theoretical and practical instruction for up to 30 students per class.
  • Create training aids using supplied boards (white, chalk), equipment (projectors, smart boards), and other multimedia materials.
  • Monitor and correct unsafe workshop behaviour.
  • Identify and report student disciplinary and academic problems to the applicable Section Head.
  • Review and implement instruction policies including tool control, classroom management, material management, social relationships, and harassment prevention.
  • Navigate the Defence Learning Network (DLN) to monitor student progress.
  • Adapt to changing working conditions such as programme changes, scheduling changes, and changes to subject matter.
  • Familiarize and follow all policies outlined at RCEME School and the Conduct of Training Manual (CTM) related to instruction provided to the DP1 and DP2 Students.
  • Maintain classrooms, laboratories, and facilities in a clean, serviceable state, ensuring fire, security, and safety regulations are adhered to.
  • Control, score, and analyze all Enabling Checks (ECs) and Performance Checks (PCs).
  • Advise course director regarding deficient and unserviceable training aids and facilities.
  • Provide course training documentation, lesson plans, student assessments and evaluations to the Course Director.
  • Input entries in the Student Record Book (SRB) for course reports, counselling, etc.
  • Assist the Course Director / Section IC in counselling students on their performance.
  • Participate in course design and development activities.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) as needed.
  • Provide instruction of practical and theoretical knowledge of motor vehicles servicing (e.g., jacking) and application of approved and safe procedures while performing inspecting automotive repairs on a shop floor.
  • Use advanced tooling such as alignment machines, training boards for ABS, Traction Control System (TCS), Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), fuel management, and other such systems.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Mandatory Requirements
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a Secret level clearance (Calian can assist with this).
  • Must have a minimum 3 years experience in the automotive or heavy equipment industry.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years experience in teaching adults in the last 10 years.
  • And either a current certification in: Ozone Depleting Products (ODP); and Workshop Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS).
  • Plus one of the following:
  • Graduation from a two-year college Automotive Service Technician diploma program offered by a recognized technical institute;
  • Graduation from a two-year college Heavy Duty Equipment Technician diploma program offered by a recognized technical institute;
  • Eligibility for registration as an Automotive Service Technician or a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician by a recognized Canadian licensing body;
  • A current provincially recognized automotive technician license.
Additional Requirements
  • You will be required to work on site.
  • You will be required to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Secret level.
