Key Objective:

As a key member of the Commercial Insurance underwriting department, you will focus on retention, account rounding, new business, renewal changes and profit goals while establishing and maintaining healthy relationships with with assigned brokers. You will manage a growing and profitable book of Manufacturing, Real Estate, Wholesale and Food, Property & Casualty business within the team’s Commercial Industry Practice.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Risk selection, coverage negotiation and pricing adequacy on new and renewal business.
  • Gather and analyze account information and make sound underwriting recommendations and decisions.
  • Identify prospects or account rounding opportunities and actively manage and pursue
  • Monitor booking, retention, account rounding and renewal change accuracy.
  • Contribute to differentiated customer retention and sales results.
  • Develop, establish, and foster relationships with brokers and key clients.
  • Develop customer‑centric renewal strategies that align with the company’s financial goals.
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to an engaging work environment.
  • Handle individual risk inquiries and correspondence from brokers and make appropriate decisions.
  • Contribute to projects as required to improve business and continually develop professional competencies.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of three (3) years of property and casualty underwriting experience.
  • Completion of University degree and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience underwriting in any of the following industries is an asset: Manufacturing, Real Estate, Wholesale, Professional Services, Food, and Retail.
  • Proven ability to independently and successfully problem solve.
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to follow‑up independently.
  • High level of responsiveness and efficiency when working with stakeholders.
  • Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills, proven through established broker relationships.
  • Superior marketing ability, combined with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to respond as a team player, in a multi‑task environment.
  • Strong ability to be innovative and creative in order to develop new business opportunities.
  • Comfortable working in a deadline‑oriented atmosphere.
  • Successful experience managing large regional broker relationship(s) considered an asset.
  • CIP and/or CRM designation or completed CIP/CRM courses considered an asset.
