Job summary

A leading construction firm is seeking an experienced Traffic Control Technician to work on highway projects across Alberta. In this role, you will ensure the safety of traffic operations, set up and monitor closures, and perform flagging activities. Strong communication skills and the ability to multitask in a high-traffic environment are essential. This field-based position runs from May to November 2026, with shift rotations including 10–14-hour workdays and a living-out allowance provided.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in traffic control in a busy, high-traffic environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean 3-year driver’s abstract.

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring that all safety procedures and protocols are followed
  • Setting up closures with adequate signage, barricading and cones, lane markings
  • Safely maintain and monitor all closures
  • Removing and relocating traffic equipment as needed
  • Performing flagging activities to safely direct vehicles, heavy equipment and foot traffic for the safety of road users and work crews in a construction environment
  • Completing daily traffic inspections and reports
  • Safely driving the buffer truck
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in traffic control in a busy, high-traffic environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and multitask within time constraints
  • Physically capable of standing for long durations, moving traffic equipment and working outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean 3-year driver’s abstract
Work Conditions
  • This is a field-based position from May to November 2026
  • Flexibility to work on projects throughout Alberta is required
  • Shift rotations involve 10–14-hour workdays, including nights and overtime
  • A living-out allowance of $135 per day is provided
  • Preference is given to candidates with an RV or trailer, as a camp area with hookups is provided
