Overview

The Career Foundation is a dynamic non-profit organization offering employment, training, and HR services. The Youth Thrive program operates nationally in multiple regions, focusing on youth who identify as Indigenous or who are underserved from equity-deserving groups. The position supports youth in securing volunteer placements, building skills, and engaging with community partners.

Position Description

As a Placement Specialist/Coach with the national Youth Thrive program based in Alberta, you will be a key member of the project team. You will establish and maintain relationships with non-profit organizations across multiple sectors and develop meaningful volunteer opportunities for youth participants. You will manage a caseload of youth and mentors, help youth understand expectations of non-profit workplaces, and work toward placement targets. The role is based out of Edmonton with frequent travel across Alberta and operates on a hybrid-remote schedule. A valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle are required for local travel. The position requires flexibility to work some evenings and occasional weekends. A Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is a condition of employment.

Responsibilities
  • Community Partner Outreach, Relationship Building, and Volunteer Development: conduct outreach to non-profit organizations to promote the Youth Thrive program and secure volunteer placements; develop and maintain relationships with partners; place youth into suitable volunteer opportunities; conduct on-site visits to ensure safe workplaces; negotiate and administer placement training plans.
  • Monitoring & Documentation: track personal success rates; maintain accurate documentation of outreach activities, interviews, vacancies, and placements; ensure caseload files are up-to-date for audits.
  • Team Collaboration & Program Promotion: collaborate with team members to plan outreach, participate in community events, and promote The Career Foundation’s services.
  • Youth Placement & Retention Coaching: provide coaching to help youth overcome barriers, conduct group workshops, offer individual coaching, prepare youth for interviews, and monitor progress to ensure successful placements.
  • Support & Mediation: serve as a resource to youth and non-profit partners to mediate issues and provide supports that lead to retention and successful completion of placements.
  • Use of Digital Tools: utilize The Career Foundation’s digital systems to support youth outcomes.
Qualifications / Skills
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in marketing, business, or human/social services preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two years of direct experience in job development, coaching, community outreach, sales, or related fields.
  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle for travel within Alberta; willingness to travel to remote areas.
  • Experience working with youth, including Indigenous or underserved groups, is an asset.
  • Knowledge of labour market trends and youth employment research methods is an asset.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication (verbal and written), and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders; high ethics, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and Office 365; ability to learn new online systems.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends; resilient and adaptable to changing priorities.
